A lurking & low-lying peril.
Fellow French agitators – Noise Entropy, & the troublesome fringe radical duo – Mourmansk 150 – merge & dispense a fatal destabilisation dosage of nondescript, evasive, distinctly ominous Industrial omni-noise murk. a culmination of disinformation, betrayal, counter offensives, radical off-shoots, renegade elements, expelled extremities, forbidden thinking, revenge motives, & opportunistic & spontaneous flash actions yield this anxiously apprehensive unconventional threat, which sounds & shifts like an apparition, difficult to decipher or clearly identify.
The sophisticated materials for these operations & atmospheres are a contraband of noise, power electronics, industrial, dark ambient, drone, & sound scape elements. The male & female voice of both instigators from the Mourmansk wing, through an extensive range of distortions, effects & mannerisms (agitated, aggressive, despondent, gleeful, screaming, casual, exhausted, whispered) are conscripted, along side debate & speech samples. Programmed percussion is occasionally integrated, bearing the pulsing Industrial standard. Weirder still are the unsettling & sporadic neoclassical & electric organ grafts, which I think may indicate one of the rabble having some kind of background or application in chamber or classical music. It would appear that an investment in irregular contraptions or materials (presumably captured with a contact microphone), that are operated or antagonised by hand or mechanics, are also active. The simmering turbidity is far more expansive & descriptive than simply noise, & seems entirely unconcerned with harshness or conventional extremes, & more intent on some kind of major immersive swallowing of the listener. The substance is more elaborate & broader than simply “dark ambient” (a sub-genre that M150 has encompassed periodically during it’s long career), filling a wider dynamic & territory, & entering more into the domain of “sound scape” (the great Illusion of Safety have been a frequent stalwart in this expanded strata for some time).
Powerful & acutely disconcerting, its a slow poison that is very reflective of the contemporary fever myriad, impasse & intensity.
The three larger tracks (there are five in total) sound like they have been assiduously scored, with some highly contrasting transformations & metamorphic veering.
Rich in subtle details & minute tinkerings, the complexity is reinforced with impressive sound quality & production (the equipment also appears specialised).
New World Disorder has considerably upscaled since last years Vous Nous Verrez re-emergence, & joined by Noise Entropy casts an intense, bleak, unnerving, evocative, disorientating & alarming plunge into a kind of mortally uncomfortable hell scape of fracturing psyches collapsarian post-panic.
