The Machine Gun Explosion Ensemble is an Avant-Free-Jazz collective marked by their rapidity, wildness & temerity. The clan energise a wide confluence of styles, dashing freely through the classical geography of Jazz schemas. Further predisposition for hyper avant-garde – both in its traditional criteria & newly advanced transfigurations – & alacrity for frantic improvisation, joyful volatility & careening free flow avalanches. Radical modern mediums & neo-transmogrifications abound & a keen harking towards post-millennial innovations in challenging music, specifically from the improvised sphere. Arcane instruments from Africa, East Asia & the old Silk Road regions are also regularly incorporated. Electronics, noise, gadgets, FX-pedals, & even synthesizers also feature. This crashing esemplastication of multi-divergent practices, genres & themes – as well as the lavish individuality in application & interpretation give the group a quality of hysterical exoticism where the esoteric, arcane, extreme, traditional & recondite collide, elide & explode.

山澤輝人Teruhito Yamazawa is a self-taught tenor saxophonist & flautist originally from Kyoto & a highly active participant in Japan’s underground since the mid-90s. A powerful, emotive, visceral player who’s dialects flip between frenetic pyromania, strangled squeal-outs & rubber-burns – as well as deeply lyrical traditional Jazz disciplines, Avant-Ethno-Spiritual varieties & “mad holy man” rambunctiousness.
Kikanju Baku has repeatedly established himself as a one-off, unremittingly heteroclite iconoclast through consistent displays of unparalleled speed, originality, stamina, peregrinism & daring. A maverick of multidisciplinary deployment, hyper invention & abject hysterics, “precision hysteria” & abstractive intellectualism he has proved himself an unmatched force across a cosm of remorselessly challenging & extreme terrains, styles & genres from Noise, Avant Jazz, Gunk, Flensecore, Advanced Fracture, Hard-Vacuum, Grate & Grindcore, Surrealist Futurism, “psycho-kenetic-substances” & far beyond.
ルイス稲毛 Louis Inage is an electric bassist distinguished by a highly unique & exceptionally wild manner & skill set – cut with super deft virtuosity & precision & a penchant for speed. The intense originality, ultra-confidence & self-devised dynamism has found his improvisational imprint enlisted in a myriad of radical projects & established him as a regular rule-breaker in Tokyo’s avant & improvised underground.

マグマトロン <MAGMATRON> adopt the quintessential extremities of ultra-avant-garde tempestuous Free Jazz & stridulous Noise Rock turbulence. These three brilliantly gifted & daring musicians dispense powerful, uneven, discordant, warped, psychedelic, unhinged clamour with an incredible fidelity to some of the rarest & most “out there” elements of the kindred genres & experimental grounds, all relayed with superb musicianship & careful extensivity.
As if that was not enough, each member doubles as a multi-instrumentalist & accomplished reed player, meaning hulking bergs of terrific screel & breath-based maelstrom are an extra element to the radical repertoire.

Government Alpha is 吉田恭淑 <Yoshida Yasutoshi>, renowned simply as being one of the greatest & most productive Harsh Noise/Power Noise & “Japanoise” practitioners of all time with a trail of melted psychedelic wreckage spiralling all-the-way back to 1994. His acute psychedelic & experimental proclivity also distinguishes his erring & distinction even further. Yoshida & Kikanju’s various collaborations led to a seismic 2011 Shinjuku recording session that resulted in various releases on the insanely odd-ball & uber idiosyncratic label Erst-while Antrum.

Luminary No-Skool-Noyzcore stalwarts since 1994 consistently splurging a pulverising vortex of shredding-noisegrind-blurcore crossed with flux-fusion, parody, & “professional piss-take”. The legendary Japanese noise/avant guitarist 今井 和雄 <Imai Kazuo> famous for his highly iconic, manic, unbridled, strenuous, polyprismatic pandemonium. Joined here by the mad, firebrand ascetic Kikanju Baku on drums as a double fire-ball.
Keiko Higuuchi & Louis Inage:
A wild woman of dark avant-garde free improvisation. Contrasted with her more controlled ballad work, ヒグチケイコ<Higuchi Keiko>’s waling, operatic, lallated, banshee menacing is presided over by an intense physical presence. saturnine, impetuous, erratic, feline. In addition to vocals she plays piano, drums & percussion & hand-fashioned trash instruments laced with FX-pedal modulation & samples. She will be joined here on electric bass by the brilliant Louis Inage, a frequent collaborator.
